Megaupload search warrant "was invalid"

A New Zealand judge has ruled that the search warrants used to allow the raids of Megaupload owner Kim Dotcom were invalid”.

The file-sharing site was shut down in January and its owner, Kim Dotcom, along with four others were arrested.

The BBC, however, reports High Court judge Justice Helen Winkelmann as saying: "The warrants did not adequately describe the offences to which they related. They were general warrants, and as such, are invalid.”

The police and judiciary are now in discussions "to determine what further action might be required".

Millions of dollars as well as a fleet of nearly 20 luxury vehicles, art pieces and computers were seized as part of the operation.

Kim Dotcom is currently on bail.
