Microsoft rejects Motorola settlement offer

A proposed settlement offer from Motorola has been rejected by Microsoft as the pair’sw legal tussle continues.

Having successfully won a block on Xbox 360 sales in Germany(pending the outome of the US trial), Motorola’s patent claim against the console now threatens to ban the machine from the US.

CVG reports that Motorola’s offer asked for a 2.25 per cent royalty on every Xbox 360 sale and a 50 cent levy on each copy of Windows sold.

This leaves the International Trade Commission with the choice of allowing the original recommendation – which would result in a possible US ban on Xbox 360 depending on President Obama’s say so – to stand or to force an amendment to the demands.

A Seattle judge recently claimed that attorney fees already spent on the fiasco "could finance a small country".
