Miitomo will have microtransactions

Nintendo has confirmed that its free debut smartphone app will offer microtransactions.

Pre-registration for social app Miitomo went live today. The platform holder has revealed that some items in the game, such as avatar clothing, can be obtained with Miitomo coins. These can be earned in game or purchased with real money.

The character design system will be the same as that found on Wii and Wii U. It will also be able to fashion a character by taking a picture of someone in real life.

Your MIi and your friends’ Mii characters act as social go-betweens,” the official site explained. Your Mii will ask questions you’d never think to ask yourself, the learn the fun little things that make you… YOU.” The example given is What did you do last weekend?”

Users will also be able to create photos of their and their friends’ Miis using pictures from their phone.

Miitomo is due out in March.
