GREE London games studio will boost firm’s Western content

The new Tech City games studio from GREE will be geared towards Western content and local social trends.

In the official announcement about the new studio, which will be housed at the East End’s ‘Silicon Roundabout’ hub of digital games firms, UK GREE chief Ryotaro Shima said the plan was to build a team making games relevant to British, European and US gamers.

He said: The formation of a UK studio is strategically significant on many levels. Primarily it will allow us to focus on Western content, keyed to local social trends, as well as tailoring content for global propositions.

"It also reinforces GREE’s commitment to growth within European markets.”

The London area known as Silicon Roundabout has grown rapidly as a community of digital innovators and creative forward-thinkers, making it the obvious location for GREE to base UK operations.”

GREE UK currently has 20 staff but will grow that further.

It’s not the first new studio in the west GREE has opened – it recently confirmed it was expanding to Vancouver, too.
