GungHo leads wave of investors for Series B funding that raises $15m

Puzzles & Dragons firm leads funding for Kamcord mobile games network

Mobile gaming social network Kamcord has raised $15m in Series B funding, with major investors including Puzzles & Dragons creator GungHo, Tencent and Wargaming.

Kamcord’s success is due in part to its gameplay recording and sharing technology, allowing gamers to share videos of their play sessions with friends. The technology can be integrated into mobile games to help grow communities in the hopes that players will promote the titles in question.

The $15m raised will be used to expand Kamcord’s workforce in the US and grow its Asian operations.

GungHo led the funding, with other investors including Tencent, Wargaming, TransLink Capital, M&Y Growth Partners, Merus Capital, XG Ventures, Garry Tan, Aaron Iba, Harj Taggar, Alexis Ohanian, Dror Shimshowitz and Mark Williamson.

“Part of GungHo Online Entertainment’s success derives from building a vibrant player community,” said Jun Iwasaki, CEO of GungHo America. “By partnering with Kamcord, we’re expanding our community as we know community-created gameplay videos are an indispensable form of information, entertainment, and community engagement.”

Kamcord co-founder and CEO Matt Zitzman added: "Kamcord’s mission is to build a community around gameplay videos for the world’s 1 billion mobile gamers. We couldn’t be more excited to deepen our relationship with GungHo Online Entertainment and leverage its incredible expertise in mobile and building world-class gaming communities. These new funds will help us accelerate our growth as we work to realise our vision.”
