Report: Google working on console

Google is reported to be working on its own Android game console as a preemptive measure against possible future Apple devices.

Until recently Android has stuck to smartphones and tablets, but devices such as the Ouya microconsole are already taking advantage of the open source Linux-based operating system.

“People familiar with the matter” told the Wall Street Journal the company is keeping its eye on the Ouya, and is acting under the expectation that Apple will launch its own console with the next Apple TV release.

Google has not commented on the rumors.

As part of its transition into the hardware market, the company has been working on its own line of smartphones, and has entered the laptop market with the Chromebook.
