Update adds compressed audio playback, optimisations

Unity iPhone upgraded to version 1.0.1

The iPhone version of the Unity Engine has been updated to version 1.0.1.

In addition to improvements to the Live Preview functionality within the Unity Editor, support for compressed audio in mp3 and m4a formats has been added, and significant optimisations have been made to engine calls from script – up to 300% in some cases.

“With Unity iPhone 1.0.1 we’ve improved performance beyond what is reasonably achievable even with homebrew development, and the toolset is of course lightyears ahead of that,” said David Helgason, CEO of Unity Technologies.

Jeff Murray, director of game development at Fuel Games, added: “Unity has proven to be an incredible tool in prototyping and developing content for iPhone, browser and download distribution. We continue to break new ground in our ongoing Unity iPhone and Unity Pro development and can’t wait to see where Unity goes next."
