NBA are eying up a Chinese esports league

The NBA, hot on the heels of announcing their own esports league with NBA franchises taking part, have set their sights on China.

NBA China’s CEO David Shoemaker was talking to CNBC about the NBA’s expansion and how he’s optimistic that esports expansion to China has great potential, when he revealed the news.

“When you factor in not just filling arenas, but the content offering and what that can do with the millions of people watching it online, we think the sky’s really the limit,” said Shoemaker to CNBC.

The NBA’s esports league launches next year, and the organisation are considering bringing in Chinese teams to the league, in addition to the several American NBA franchises that are taking part.

This information also comes alongside the news that Chinese giant Tencent will be broadcasting traditional basketball games, the ones where people actually have to run around and get sweaty, to fans that can’t actually get into the arena.
