New Tony Hawk game hinted for VGA reveal

Skateboarding star Tony Hawk says he will be announcing an upcoming release on the day of the Spike Video Game Awards.

The extreme sports legend said on Twitter: I’ll be announcing the upcoming release of something new on Saturday; the same day as the Spike Video Game Awards. Coincidence? I think not.”

The Tony Hawk series first arrived on the original Sony PlayStation in 1999. Tony Hawk: Shred is the latest Hawk game from Activision which was released in October 2010. It used a skateboard accessory and saw disappointing sales.

Tony Hawk was typically an annually released game franchise but this year no new release hit shelves.

Earlier this year Hawk said: We’re going to do something probably for next year but I can’t give too much away”.

In December 2010 Activision Publishing’s CEO Eric Hirshberg said Hawk is a lasting icon with Michael Jordan-esque staying power”.
