New Zelda due this year

Obviously cheery after the Wii’s impressive December performance across the globe, Satoru Iwata has kicked off the New Year by stating that the new Zelda game on Wii will be released some time in 2010.

The news comes from a translation of an interview with Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun, courtesy of Kotaku.

Nintendo had already told gamers to expect a more detailed reveal of the title at this year’s E3 Expo in the US. The Nintendo president adds that fresh news on the Vitality Sensor will also be presented at the show.

Still, the news will be welcomed by fans who had been warned that a 2010 release was by no means a given. Of course, even this latest statement in no way guarantees a North American or European release for the game this year.
