Metroid Prime is back – but it might not be in the way you expect.

Metroid Prime Federation Force is a new first-person shooter exclusively for 3DS.

There appears to be a large focus on multiplayer, with three-on-three game modes demonstrated during a fast-paced teaser trailer.

It also looks like there will be AI-controlled beasts, reminscient of past Metroid baddies.

What this means for the game’s single-player portion isn’t clear, but the game’s UI adopts the iconic helmet framing of past first-person entries in the series.

It’s due out next year.
