Donkey Kong and Bowser first in new collaboration between toys-to-life franchises

E3 2015: Amiibo gets Skylanders crossover

Nintendo is bringing two new amiibo figures to the upcoming Skylanders: Superchargers game for Wii U and 3DS.

This deal is the first time there will be a crossover between the two toys-to-life franchises. The first figurines will include Bowser and Donkey Kong, as well as vehicles for each. Both characters will have their own move sets and upgrade trees within Skylanders.

The deal is exclusive to Nintendo platforms only. Users will also be able to use these figures as Amiibo by switching the settings on the toys.

The move is somewhat of a surprise considering the potential rivalry of the two toys-to-life franchises, as well as Nintendo’s typical tight control of its IP. Addressing the concerns however, Activision’s Karthik Bala suggested the platform holder was open to new ideas for its characters.

Skylanders: Superchargers is scheduled for release on September 25th in Europe.
