Oculus Rift pre-orders go live in two days

Pre-orders for the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset will go live this week.

The company has announced that customers will be able to lay down money for the device from 8am PST (4pm UK time) on Wednesday January 6th. Oculus founder Palmer Luckey will also be doing a Reddit AMA later in the day.

It’s not known whether a release date will also be announced at this time, although with Q1 2016 now upon us hopefully this will be the case.

Everyone who pre-orders the device will also get a free copy of CCP’s space shooter EVE: Valkyrie. Lucky’s Tale by Playful will also be included with purchases of the headset, as will an Xbox One controller.

Oculus’ own Touch controller will follow in the second half of the year.

The big question, of course, is how much the device will cost. Oculus has previously said that Oculus Rift will cost between $200-$400, although it later amended this to at least $300”.

Don’t forget, too, the price of the PC hardware needed to run the kit.
