Origin ditches physical PC game sales; Will affect just 1% of users

EA is to stop selling physical PC games through Origin. Yes, EA sold physical PC games through Origin.

The new policy comes into effect this Friday (April 4th).

In a statement confirming the news, it said that just one per cent of its customer based buys physical versions of its PC games.

This means the entire Origin game store will be entirely digital downloads for PC and Mac,” EA said. What does this mean for you? If you’re among 99 per cent of our users, absolutely nothing. Your shopping experience hasn’t changed one single bit.

But if you’re that one per cent who still desires a physical collection, we want to let you know that Origin won’t be able to fulfill that need beginning April 4th. We’ll still be here when you transition your gaming habits to the wonders of digital downloads.

Digital is fast and convenient. Origin’s focus is to give gamers the best experience, and going all-digital will make that possible.”

It’s unclear whether that sales ratio refers to EA’s PC games in the wider market or just to sales made through Origin.
