Amazon could reveal game console this week

Amazon may be set to reveal its new game console this week.

The web retail giant has sent out press invites for a New York-based event on April 2nd to discuss "updates for our video business".

It is widely believed that Amazon is set to enter the home console business, although it is not currently clear what form this will take.

The firm has been building up its game development offerings in recent times, having acquired Killer Instinct developer Double Helix. The company is also staffing up its own Amazon Game Studios which is hiring for developers experienced in Unity, CryEngine, Unreal and other leading engines.

Images of a game controller for the console, that takes inspiration from Microsoft’s Xbox gamepad, also leaked online earlier this month.
