PoP losing out to GoW

Ubisoft has admitted it has lost many core Prince of Persia players to God of War – but it’s also hoping to win them back with upcoming release Forgotten Sands.

Animation director for Ubisoft, Jan-Erik Sjoball, told CVG: When we make questionnaires and ask, ‘what did you play in the past?’ The answer is ‘Prince of Persia’. ‘What do you play now?’ ‘God of War’. ‘Would you play Prince of Persia again?’ ‘No, it’s not hard enough’."

"So the idea (with Forgotten Sands) was clearly that we’d try to bring our old audience back, but also we’re winning a new audience.”

Sjoball said one reason why previous Prince of Persia fans left the series for God of War was the death animations”. He said: We want to have interesting fight sequences in the new game but not indulge in the violence like God of War does.”

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands will be released on PC, Xbox 360, PS3, DS, PSP and Wii on May 20th, one week before the movie launches.
