Battlefield 1 beta breaks records

The recent open beta for DICE’s upcoming Battlefield 1 has broken EA records.

The studio has revealed that the game was played by 13.2m people, making it the biggest in the publisher’s history. That also beats the numbers boasted by Blizzard’s record-breaker Overwatch (9.7m) and Ubisoft’s The Division (6.4m), as well as EA pair Star Wars Battlefront (9m) and Battlefield Hardline (7m).

It was exciting playing beside you last week. Looking at the moments you’ve been sharing we cannot help but feel humbled by the dedication you’ve shown,” Senior producer Aleks Grondal said.

I want to personally thank you all for the great feedback you’ve given us. We’re trawling through forum posts, social media mentions, and digging into some great data. We’re identifying what worked well, and what didn’t work as well. We truly value your input.

In the near future, we’ll have more details on the changes we’ll be making to the full version of the game (yes, the Light Tank performed a little too well, that will be addressed).”

Battlefield 1 will be released on October 13th. Traditionally big beta numbers point to even bigger sales, and EA would undoubtedly be chuffed with sales north of 13m for its title.
