Creators of Okami and Devil May Cry working on biblical fantasy adventure

Capcom and Clover execs announce El Shaddai

Former Capcom and Clover executives are heading up development on El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron.

Sawaki Takeyasu is working as director and character designer while Masato Kimura serves as the game’s producer. Both have worked on previous hits such as Devil May Cry, Okami and Viewtiful Joe.

El Shaddai is inspired by the events of the Old Testament, telling the tale of Enoch and his role in the battle between Heaven and the fallen angels.

The game has previously announced for a Japan release for Xbox 360 and PS3, but will be formally announced this week for North American and European release. It is due to hit shelves in 2011.

“When developing this title, it was imperative that we give these immensely talented game designers total artistic freedom,” said UTV Ignition Entertainment chairman Hassan Sadiq.

“And they have truly risen to the occasion by forging an adventure that combines a compelling, universally relatable storyline with deep gameplay and a uniquely expressive visual style.”
