Platform holder "committed" to making its devices a viable market for freemium devs

E3 2014: “Free-to-play will explode on PlayStation”

Sony is determined to win over free-to-play developers, with plans to ramp up its efforts in the space in the next few years.

During the firm’s E3 press conference, new SCEA president and CEO Shawn Layden claimed that "free-to-play will explode on PlayStation in the coming years", pointing to the selection of freemium games already in the works for PS3, PS4 and Vita.

Titles on the way include Kingdom Under Fire 2, Planetside 2, Gunza, My Singing Monster, War Thunder and a new Fieldrunners.

Layden stressed that PlayStaiton is "committed" to make its devices a viable marketplace for freemium titles, and that it’s important to Sony that free-to-play games really are free to play.
