E3 2014: Mario Maker lets players make their own Mario game

Sackboy may be back, but Nintendo is no doubt hoping the ever-lasting appeal of Mario will help convert a few of his fans to Wii U.

The platform holder has announced Mario Maker, a new Wii U title that lets you design your own courses in the style of classic Mario titles.

The interface revolves around the GamePad, with the stylus allowing players to place blocks, pipes and classic Mario enemies like Goombas and Koopa Troopers.

From the looks of the trailer, you’ll be switch between the editor and gameplay on the fly, enabling players to tweak courses as they play.

They’ll also be able to switch between the classic 8-bit look of the original Super Mario Bros and the HD look of New Super Mario Bros U.

Mario Maker is due on Wii U in 2015.
