EA: Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is out next February, features completely open world

The follow-up to 2008 free-running game Mirror’s Edge finally has a release date.

Billed as neither a reboot nor a remake, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst will nonetheless serve as a prequel to the first game, telling the origin story of Mirror’s Edge protagonist Faith.

However, unlike that game, EA highlighted the fact that Faith wouldn’t need to use guns in her fight against baddie Gabriel Kruber and his henchmen, instead utilising new free-running abilities and melee attacks.

The game will take place in the City of Glass, which is rendered using the latest version of DICE’s Frostbite engine.

The environment will be a completely seamless world, without loading screens or individually-segmented levels, EA said. There also appears to be much less red than in the original title, where the colour was used in contrast to white to highlight traversable objects.

Scattered across the open world will be time trials and environmental puzzles, as well as story missions.

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst will be coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC on February 23rd of next year.
