Gears of War to be remastered for Xbox One – report

One of the Xbox 360’s defining shooters could be set to make a return on the Xbox One, if reports are to be believed.

A remastered version of 2006 cover-based shooter Gears of War was first spotted by Polygon, which noted that a number of Xbox One players were playing a test build simply titled ‘Gears of War’ on the console.

According to Polygon, the revamp is being developed by Black Tusk Studios. The outlet – formerly known as Microsoft Vancouver – was previously said to be working on an as-yet unannounced new entry in the Gears of War franchise.

However, it has also been suggested that Brink developer Splash Damage is instead taking the lead on the remaster.

Microsoft acquired the Gears of War license from creator Epic Studios last year.

Kotaku seemingly later confirmed the rumours, stating that three sources had been in contact to confirm they have been playing the test build.

According to the sources, only the first Gears of War is currently being in line to be brought across to the Xbox One.

The current build is said to be multiplayer-only for the moment, featuring a variety of Team Deathmatch, King of the Hill and One-Life/Instant Death gameplay modes.

Polygon adds that the Xbox One version of Gears of War will boast improved lighting, better texture quality and 60 frames-per-second performance.
