God of War: Ascension releasing in March 2013

Sony announced at its E3 press conference today that God of War: Ascension for the PS3 will release on March 12, 2013.

Game director Todd Pappy debuted gameplay from Ascension’s single-player campaign on stage, which revealed new enemy types and combat variations, and what looked like the beginning of a boss fight on a massive scale.

The demonstration also showed off the new Life Cycle mechanic, using which Kratos can slow down and reverse time to manipulate various objects for platforming and puzzle-solving.

God of War: Ascension will take players back to Kratos’ origins as the story takes place before the events of the earlier games in the series. The game will also, for the first time in the franchise’s history, feature competitive multiplayer.
