Mobile company cuts jobs, as it acquires developer MunkyFun

Gree restructure means US job cuts

Japanese social mobile company Gree has made significant changes to its US operations.

The restructuring sees the majority of its US games platform team transitioned to new departments; a move that will also result in unspecified redundancies.

This news comes following the company’s sudden decision to shut down the OpenFeint network, a move that has been criticised by some developers.

Work on the Gree platform will now be conducted at the company’s Tokyo headquarters, while its San Francisco base switches to game development and support of its partners’ games.

Meanwhile, Gree has also invested $3 million for a minority stake in San Francisco developer MunkyFun, which is famed for its games Bounty Bots and My Horse, which was published by NaturalMotion.
