JAPAN: Monster Hunter ships 3.5m

Publisher Capcom has revealed that over 3.5m copies of its PSP hit Monster Hunter Freedm Unite have now been shipped in Japan – the first PSP title to reach such a landmark in the region.

The game was first released in March of last year, propelling PSP to the top of the hardware sales charts and going on to be the best selling PSP title of 2008 in Japan. Since the arrival of the budget ‘PSP Best’ SKU in October the game has added a further 1m sales to its total.

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite was released in the UK late last month and is currently sitting at the top of the ELSPA GfK-ChartTrack PSP Top 10 and at number 28 in the All Formats Top 40.

The next instalment to the Monster Hunter series will be a Wii-exclusive and is set to be the first third party title to get the hardware bundle treatment in Nintendo’s homeland.
