Praise heaped on Mass Effect 2

The first reviews of Mass Effect 2 have gone live ahead of Friday’s UK release of EA’s long-awaited RPG sequel – and all signs point to BioWare’s latest becoming one of the highest rated titles of all time.

According to reviews aggregator Metacritic, Mass Effect 2 is currently the second highest scored Xbox 360 game ever, with its average sitting at 97 per cent after the first round of reviews went live overnight.

The only title to better it in the Xbox listings is Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV, which currently has a 98 per cent average.

If the numbers stay as they are Mass Effect 2 will top the likes of Valve’s The Orange Box, Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Microsoft pair Halo 3 and Gears of War.
