PS4 is outselling Xbox One by over 3:1

Sony’s PS4 is estimated to have outsold Microsoft’s Xbox One by a ratio of more than three-to-one in the quarter ending June 30th.

As part of Sony’s financial report today, it also revealed that it sold a combined total of 3.5m PS4 and PS3 units in the period. And having elsewhere said that PS4’s strong performance offset a weak showing from PS3, it’s safe to assume that PS4 accounted for the lion’s share of this number.

Last week Microsoft revealed that in the same quarter it shipped 1.1m combined units of Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Although there’s a certain level of wiggle room depending the precise sales share between last and current gen (and the fact that Sony’s number is for sales and Microsoft’s for shipped), that still suggests that PS4 at the least sold three times as many units as Xbox One in the period – and most likely more.

Note too that Microsoft released a discounted Kinect-less Xbox One on June 9th, with three weeks worth of sales contributing to the quarterly figure.
