Square publishing COD:MW2 in Japan?

Despite the region’s traditional hostility to first person shooters, it seems as if publisher Square Enix is to publish Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in Japan.

The hint comes from a new splash page on the Square Enix website. Though the game is not named specifically, a large ‘2′ in the style of Modern Warfare 2 is prominent and the page footer contains copyright information for both Activision and Call of Duty.

The changing text carries quotes from political leaders such as former US president Franklin Roosevelt.

Square already enjoys a publishing relationship with Ubisoft and has bought other Western developed titles to the region, including Frontier’s Lost Winds.

The move is the latest in a long line of triple-A Western developed hits heading to Japan. Capcom last year brought Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV to the region – which managed to chart higher than Sony title LittleBigPlanet.
