Stringer: PS3 and PSP install base passes 60m

Howard Stringer, the CEO of Sony, told the audience at the firm’s Consumer Electronics Show presentation in Las Vegas that the combined global userbase for its PS3 and PSP consoles now stands at 61.3 million.

Edge Online also reports that SCE CEO Kaz Hirai added that $1m worth of virtual goods have already been downloaded through PlayStation Home, and that the social networking software has to date been downloaded to 3.4 million PS3s.

The public Beta for PlayStation Home arrived late last year. Yesterday, Red Bull became the first company to release a significant dedicated branded presence within the Home world with the release of its Red Bull Air Race Island.
