Super Mario All-Stars for Wii

One of the greatest SKUs ever released could be set for a return with reports from Japan that Nintendo is working on a Wii version of classic SNES platform game collection Super Mario All-Stars.

The game, originally released in 1993, contains Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2, Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario Bros: the Lost Levels, which until the release of game had previously never been seen outside of Japan.

The visuals were all enhanced over their NES debuts. Whether Nintendo will make the same move with the Wii version remains to be seen.

Andriasang reports that the game, which for now is going under the name Super Mario Collection: Special Pack, will include all four games, a soundtrack CD featuring tunes from all of Mario’s platform titles up to and including Galaxy 2 and a booklet examining the history of the series.

It’s due for release in Japan on October 21st and will cost YEN 2,500 – which as a direct conversion works out as a budget price of 20. There’s no word yet on a UK release.

UPDATE: Nintendo has told MCV that all talk of the game "is purely rumour and speculation" at this point.

UPDATE 2: Nintendo of Japan has now officially confirmed the title for release in the territory.
