EA and Respawn’s Titanfall 2 has not fared any better digitally than it has on the High Street.
Superdata Research reports that worldwide digital sales of Titanfall 2 throughout October managed just a quarter of those achieved by its predecessor. That’s especially poor considering that digital sales were less established in 2014, and that the original wasn’t available on PlayStation platforms.
The report adds that total digital video game revenue for the period was up 14 per cent year-on-year. Digital console revenue climbed 27 per cent, while triple-A PC revenue soared 78 per cent.
Titanfall 2 arrived at the end of October but UK high Street sales fell well short of its predecessor. EA, however, has insisted that the game can persist and improve its performance over time, despite someapparent reservations from Respawn boss Vince Zampella.
Indeed, just last week EA CCO Peter Moore reiterated the publisher’s faith in the game.
"One thing we do incredibly well is take a great title like this and leverage it for many years to come," Moore said, as reported by Games Industry. "We’re going to be selling Titanfall 2 on a global basis for many, many years."
Titanfall 2 is just now finishing a free to try open weekend across PC and consoles, throughout which online player counts were noticeably up.
