Warner acquires dev Rocksteady

Growing video games publisher Warner Bros Interactive has acquired a majority stake in London-based developer Rocksteady Studios.

The move comes after the tremendous success enjoyed by Rocksteady’s 2009 release Batman: Arkham Asylum.

The deal is the latest in Warner’s ongoing strategy to strengthen its internal development capacity. In 2007 it acquired fellow UK studio TT Games, the team behind the highly lucrative LEGO Star Wars series.
Last year Warner also acquired developer Snowblind Studios and many assets from the now-defunct Midway.

We are delighted to be deepening our relationship with London-based Rocksteady Studios, one of the UK’s most respected games developers and 2009 recipient of the VGA’s coveted ‘studio of the year’ award,” Warner UK’s president and managing director Josh Berger stated.

Rocksteady clearly has the talent, expertise and technology to make great games and we are fortunate to continue working closely with them as we further expand our games portfolio.”

Rocksteady’s studio director Jamie Walker added: We are proud to strengthen our association with Warner, a world class publisher that we have enjoyed working with since we began developing Batman: Arkham Asylum.”
