Xbox Live Gold Family Packs to be replaced by individual accounts

Microsoft is doing away with the Family Pack subscription for Xbox Live Gold, and plans to convert any family accounts to individual ones from the end of the month.

The Xbox Live Gold Family Pack was introduced in 2010 as a more affordable way to give families of four access to the benefits of a Gold account.

However, in a recent Xbox.com FAQ the platform holder announced it would split Gold Family Packs into four individual Xbox Live Gold accounts.

This is to prepare for new Xbox Live Gold updates –such as the switch from Microsoft points to local currency – as well as the Xbox One’s Home Gold service, which lets anyone in the house enjoy various Gold features through a single Xbox Live membership.

The process of converting family packs starts on August 27th. Single accounts created from this will have the same amount of time remaining on them as the Family Pack did, plus three months extra as a bonus.
