Zynga COO John Schappert quits

The COO of social gaming giant Zynga John Schappert has quit effective immediately.

The former EA exec’s decision to resign is said to have nothing to do with any disagreement with the company on any matter relating to its operations, policies or practices.

Last week Schappert was stripped of his role overseeing games development as part of a board reshuffle at Zynga, as it attempts to put a halt to its share slide and revive growth at the firm.

That move however appears to have sparked, or at least been a forebearer, to Schappert’s decision to leave the company which he joined last year, with a pay package thought to be worth around $42.8m.

"The Company noted that Mr. Schappert has made significant contributions to the games industry throughout his career and it appreciates all that he has done for the Company," read a statement from Zynga.

"The Company further noted that Mr. Schappert leaves as a friend of the Company and it wishes him all the best."

A replacement for Schappert has yet to be named.
