Report: 12 GB PS3 headed to North America this month

A 12 GB flash-based model of the PS3 will reportedly hit US and Canadian retailers later this month.

Engadget reports on a since-removed leak on Canadian chain Future Shop’s website, which showed the new SKU as available.

The tech site also received a photo, apparently snapped at a US-based Kmart, displaying a warning not to sell the hardware until August 18th.

Sony unveiled the 12 GB Playstation 3 model at last year’s Tokyo Game Show and later released it in Europe and Hong Kong, but up until this point the console line never made it stateside.

Sony has thus far declined to comment on the report.
