Amazon plans New York showcase – time for the Amazon console?

An event later this week could well be the launch platform for Amazon’s long-rumoured Android console.

The retail and media giant has been sending out press invites for a gathering in New York on Wednesday (April 2nd) at which it will offer an "update for our video business".

All signs point to this being the much-rumoured Amazon console, although the form of it and the services it will offer remains open for debate.

Reports earlier this year described it as a console, although others have subsequently stated that it will in fact be a dongle.

Leaked images of a compatible controller point to at least some form of games compatibility although recent initiatives such as Amazon Instant Video, coupled with stories elsewhere online and Amazon’s invite itself, suggest that video streaming may be more of a focus.
