Boxed games vet joins Green Man Gaming

Spiros Giamas, founder and CEO of CD Media, has joined the board of ambitious digital retailer Green Man Gaming.

CD Media, based in Greece, is one of South Eastern Europe’s biggest distributors of boxed products and Giamas’ alliance with download-only Green Man Gaming is emblematic of an industry coming to terms with the co-existence of two contrasting models.

He told MCV: Green Man Gaming provides not only a day one first-hand product to consumers, but also a method to realise a second-hand value which provides an extra revenue stream for publishers and great value for gamers. This, as well as the management team, were the reasons for me wanting to join the board.

Digital will be a natural progression for CD Media, although the road map is not as clear as other transitions have been for businesses like ours.

There are many predictions of when global revenues will ‘tip’, but I think it depends on many factors: tech, region, infrastructure, payment methods, consumer attitudes and so on. But I feel that Green Man Gaming is in a powerful position to capitalise on the growing demand for digital product and, as such, will grow rapidly as demand will increase exponentially.”
