FIFA World Cup plays it simple

The combination of a licence as wide-reaching as the World Cup and a new easier-to-understand control scheme will, EA hopes, entice a new generation of gamers to buy into the already lucrative FIFA franchise later this month.

We’re delighted with the performance of FIFA 10 and believe 2010 FIFA World Cup is another great opportunity to bring in new gamers to the football genre as well as deliver something fresh for existing football gamers,” senior product manager Luke Cousens told MCV.

We’ve introduced a new two-button control system and we’re hoping this new innovation will bring back or bring in new gamers who may have felt that the complexities of FIFA might have passed them by.”

Along with the new Coca Cola Zero Story of the Finals mode, that allows gamers to recreate key moments from the tournament just hours after they transpire in real-life, EA is also touting a host of new gameplay features for the title.

The game also features a more sophisticated, faster-paced and responsive version of the market-leading football engine that drives FIFA 10,” cousins added.

There’s additionally innovations in the game-play that capture the journey from qualification to the final tournament – with home and away strategies for every nation, situational tactics in-game, and altitude affects that fatigue players faster and even impact the flight of the ball.”

2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa will be released on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and PSP on April 30th.
