Former GameStop VP pleads guilty to fraud

Former GameStop vice president of corporate communications Chris Olivera has plead guilty to fraud for the theft of nearly $2m from the Texas company.

As part of his job as the public face of the games retailer, Olivera oversaw the handling of invoices from vendors.

Court documents provided by Eric Nicholson of the Dallas Observer claim that Olivera formed a fake company, Cloud Communications LLC and a fake point of contact, Jennifer Miller, which he used to regularly bill GameStop for $40,500.

This scheme continued from 2009 until GameStop caught on in 2011, allowing Olivera to amass about $1.97 million.

Though GameStop does not comment on matters still pending in court, a spokesperson told Kotaku that the company had terminated Olivera last year, and had cooperated fully with federal investigators.
