Man who paid £450 for a photo of an Xbox One is given a real one

The story was big news last week after Nottingham Post reported that 19 year-old Peter Clatworthy had paid 450 for a picture of an Xbox One on eBay.

He thought he’d paid for an actual console, of course, although the item’s description did correctly specify that the auction was for a photo of the machine and not the console itself.

Reaction tended to fall into one of two camps – either the guy was stupid and got exactly what he deserved or the poor fellow was an unfortunate victim of an eBay scam designed to prey on those who don’t bother to read the description of something they’re paying almost half a grand for.

Either way, CEX has embraced the spirit of Christmas by giving Clatworthy an actual real Xbox One, Nottingham Post now reports.

I’m just overwhelmed by the reaction to the story,” he stated. All I wanted was a refund. I cannot believe this. This shows there are some nice, kind people out there and it’s really overwhelming. I can’t thank them enough.

I’ve had other people contact me to say they have been stung too but not reported it. I don’t think I’ll be shopping online anymore.”

Clatworthy has also been told that he will be receiving a full refund from PayPal.
