MCV AWARDS 2012: Steam wins first Digital Retailer gong

Popular online PC game retail portal Steam became the first company to win the new Digital Retailer prize at last night’s MCV Awards 2012.

The achievement acknowledges the market-leading position attained by Valve’s network, which has become the de facto choice for millions of PC gamers across the world.

Five other awards were handed out in the Retail category.

Games Centre claimed the prestigious best Independent Retailer prize, while John Lewis was the winner of Star Store.

Activision’s fantastic Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure was named as best Digital Retail Innovation, with ShopTo.net claiming the Specialist Retailer award. The gong was collected by CEO Igor Cipolletta, who can be seen here:

Amazon.co.uk was named as the best Mainstream Retailer.

The MCV Industry Excellence Awards celebrate the commercial and creative successes made by the UK computer and video games industry across fields including retail, PR & marketing and publishing.

This year’s MCV Awards ceremony took place on at the Lancaster London Hotel and marked the 10th Anniversary of the event.
