Metal Gear Solid V ships 5m units

Konami revenue is unsurprisingly up year-on-year thanks to the launch of Metal Gear Solid V.

The company says it has since September shipped 5m copies of The Phantom Pain, including downloads.

It did not specify how much is being made by the game’s premium multiplayer DLC, nor if the game has yet reached profit – although this seems likely. PES 2016 sales have not been detailed.

As a result Konami’s Digital Entertainment division saw H1 revenues of 51.7bn, up from 44bn the year before. Operating profit jumped from 7.4bn to 12.7bn. Overall Konami revenues climbed slightly to 107.7bn with net profit doubling to 7.8bn.

Konami did not touch upon either the apparent departure of Hideo Kojima or the rumours of its exit from the console sector, although it did say: As for computer and video games, we intend to continue global introduction of titles that have been carefully chosen according to selection and concentration.”

It added that it hopes PES 2016’s MyClub mode will prove a hit going forwards.
