More store closures expected at Blockbuster

Administrator Deloitte has confirmed to MCV that there will be further closures at Blockbuser stores UK.

MCV contacted the firm after rumours suggested that all of the rental chain’s outlets would be closed by the end of March, but Deloitte stated that this was not the case.

Instead, planned stores closures are mainly those that have already been announced – "but that’s not all of them", a spokesperson told MCV.

Deloitte emphasised that the administration process for Blockbuster UK was "ongoing".

Blockbuster appointed Deloitte when it went into administration in January. The administrator promised it is "fighting in the trenches" to save as many jobs and stores as possible.

At least 160 of the chain’s 500 stores were earmarked for closure iniitally. Supermarket Morrisons has acquired 49 for its Morrisons Local business.
