Pokémon Go launch looking unlikely in China

Niantic’s hit mobile game Pokmon Go may not launch in China due to government concerns.

As reported by Reuters, the Chinese government has said it will not license augmented reality and location-based titles in the country until potential security risks have been assessed.

The region’s State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television has said that its main concerns are a high level of responsibility to national security and the safety of people’s lives and property”.

That’s alongside a threat to geographical information security and the threat to transport and the personal safety of consumers”.

This applies not only to Pokmon Go, but also any augmented reality titles, and location-based games.

Pokmon Go launched in July 2016, and was the most-downloaded release on the App Store.
