PS4: India not on list of 32 launch countries

Sony today announced that the PS4 would launch in 32 countries this November. The list of countries has now been released, and India is not on it.

Here’s the complete list:

  • United States
  • Canada
  • United Kingdom
  • Australia
  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Luxembourg
  • Netherlands
  • New Zealand
  • Norway
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Russia
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • Argentina
  • Brazil
  • Chile
  • Colombia
  • Costa Rica
  • El Salvador
  • Guatemala
  • Mexico
  • Panama
  • Peru

Japan and South East Asia are missing from the list, but release dates for that region would likely be announced at Tokyo Game Show.

However, India and the Middle East region fall under Sony Computer Entertainent Europe, so not seeing a single country from this region on the list is a little suspicious.

This may not necessarily mean that India will not get the PS4 this year though. The PS3 console sold in India is the Russian version, and PlayStation India country manager Atindriya Bose had confirmed that would likely be the case with the PS4 as well. Russia is on the list.

Bose had confirmed earlier that the PS4 will launch in India this year.

We’ve written to Sony India and we’ll update this story as we know more.
