Warcraft beats Star Wars: The Force Awakens at Chinese box office

The new Warcraft movie may have bothered critics and got off to a weak start in the US, but in China it’s off to a flyer.

Eurogamer reports that the Duncan Jones directed flick made $47m in its first day alone in China. This compares to the $22-24 it’s on track to make in the US on its opening weekend.

In contrast, Star Wars: The Force Awakens made somewhere between $30-33m in its opening weekend in China.

Warcraft has also done well in the UK, too, where it conquered the half term box office making 3.62m in its opening weekend, beating both Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows and Hitman: Agent 47.

None of which has stopped Warcraft rubbing Rotten Tomatoes up the wrong way. It currently has a 24 per cent rating on the site. Out of the Shadows has 34 per cent.
