RockYou layoffs confirmed by CEO

Social games studio RockYou has reported a round of job cuts to its US workforce.

Speaking withGamasutra, RockYou CEO Lisa Marino confirmed 23 employees were affected by the cuts.

"23 people were impacted, about 10 per cent of our US workforce. We also initiated other cost-cutting initiatives, as expenses were growing more quickly than was healthy for the business so we adjusted,” Marino said.

Revenue is at a record high for Q4 and 2015 revenue is 2x 2014’s, but given our model, expense discipline and profitability metrics are most important.”

Based in San Francisco, the company has made a name for itself in games by purchasing the rights to classic titles and then redistributing them with in-game advertisements. It currently boasts a global audience of 75m players.
