SCEJ opens Chinese strategy department

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia has opened a new business group specifically to focus on its Chinese console strategy.

Polygon reckons that a Japanese language press release from SCEJ confirms the news. The China Strategy Department will be headed up by SCEJ’s existing China strategy boss Takehito Soeda.

Yesterday it was revealed that Microsoft is stepping up its Chinese console launch strategy and has already partnered with Chinese media firms based in the Shaghai free trade zone.

China’s recent decision to temporarily lift its games console ban has got all of gaming’s major players excited thanks to the prospect of targeting over 1.35bn new, increasingly affluent consumers.
