Sony denies Hirai promotion reports

Kaz Hirai is not on the verge of replacing Sir Howard Stringer as Sony president, the company has claimed.

It has been forced into making the statement after widespread reports over the weekend that Hirai, the current head of Sony consumer products, was to be promoted to president at the expense of Stringer.

However, in a very short and to-the-point press release issued over the weekend Sony dismissed the claims.

Certain media reports were published on January 7th, 2012 regarding Sony Corporation’s executive officers’ appointments. Sony Corporation has made no announcement in this regard and nothing has been determined at this time.”

The denial has done nothing to dismiss the notion that Hirai is being groomed as the next leader for the firm, however.
