Sony to reveal PlayStation VR headset at GDC – report

An Oculus Rift-rivalling virtual reality headset from Sony will be revealed next month.

That’s according to TechRadar, which claims to have word from an inside source” that Sony will present the new hardware at GDC 2014 in San Francisco on March 17th.

Said the source: "The quality and resolution are really, really good. People will definitely be impressed with what Sony’s built." Another added: "Sony has deliberately taken its time to tweak and polish the headset before revealing it."

Sony has been rumoured to be planning a raid into the VR category for some time. The jury is out on whether VR will indeed be the ‘next big thing’ or whether it will suffer the same fate as 3D TV tech.

Sony was said to be testing VR tech as long ago as 2011 and filed a number of VR patents last year.
